Country of Origin: Czech Republic
Alcohol Content: 4.8%
Sequence: Sequence
Finished: Yes
Vessel: Can

My sister-in-law saw this can sitting on the table and she was all “Oh yeah, Kozel! Yum!” That got me thinking, she and I don’t exactly agree on what is “good”. So just looking at it from the outside, I was scared. Why is that goat so angry?

But my wife brought it to me so I had to drink it. Let’s just say I’m glad it’s gone, so I don’t have to drink it again. It wasn’t awful but it wasn’t good either. It was malty, tasted like burning, and left my mouth dry afterwards. Don’t even think about drinking it if it’s been out of the fridge for more than 10 minutes, warm Kozel is worse than cold Kozel.

I thought that it would be better, it’s from the same people who brought us Pilsner Urquell, and I liked that.

Not recommended.

Victoria Bitter

Country of Origin: Australia
Alcohol Content: 4.6%
Sequence: First
Finished: Yes
Vessel: Can

All that you can see on the can is a big VB… that’s it. I assume it’s beer. Beer from Australia too. So is it Very Beer? Vegan Beer? Vegetable Beer? Is it some kind of disease? Absolutely not! It’s Victoria Bitter (didn’t know until I went looking at the image).

I was excited at the prospect of drinking an Australian beer (other than Fosters) but at the same time, a little scared. You see, Victoria, Australia is 25,000 km from my home… that’s quite the trip for a beer.

All that aside, VB was tasty, mate (had to do at least one). It had a nice light flavour and a strange little twist/aftertaste. I couldn’t put my finger on it last night but I’m assuming it’s bitters? Don’t know.

In my research though, I did come across this ad for it by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra… classic!

Vessel: Bottle

Another new beer from the OCB taster pack. I was tired and only really wanted one beer and I wasn’t feeling a Keith’s, so I grabbed the only bottle left from my taster pack. It’s a 4.8%, so well within the boundaries of “Ken Like”.

Don’t really have anything witty to say about this beer, it was just good! It was a gold medal winner at the 2011 Ontario Brewing Awards and is now available to the entire province. I really liked it. It had the taste that Keith’s did long before I started to get tired of it.
