Alcohol Content:  5.2%
Sequence:  First
Finished:  Yes
Vessel:  Bottle

This is only the second beer I’ve seen from Lithuania, and the first one was great.  The bottle is tall and shaped beautifully. The cap is embossed, the label is gold foil. Everything about this beer is sexy. Even the name is exotic! It even won a World Beer Cup 2012 Gold Award. It has to be good.

The smell test proved that it was indeed beer. Didn’t smell like anything in particular, just malt and hops.  It tasted great. For a 5.2%, it was really light. It got a little hoppy near the end, but that have been because I was drinking it kinda quick (kids=stress).

If I ever see this one again, I will for sure pick it up. Great job Lithuania. Not sure what else you do, but the beer is good.

Olde English 800 Malt Liquor

Olde EnglishCountry of Origin:  United States
Alcohol Content: 8%
Sequence:  Second
Finished:  Begrudgingly
Vessel:  Glass by way of 40!

The second reason Pat hates me! This is the only reason that Max Ice was the best beer of the night. Then again, I could have drank water from the Thames and it would have been better than both!

It smells awful, it tastes awful, just the sight of the bottle is enough to make a person cringe. The only thing that saved it was

  1.  we drank a lot of Max Ice first
  2. We followed it up with a glass of St Remy brandy
  3. we followed THAT up with a glass of Courvoisier

In hindsight, that was not such a good idea.

So Pat is quite possible the most horrible person on the planet; he showed up at my house with a 40 of Maximum Ice and a 40 of Olde English. What the hell dude?

Oh well, let’s drink. We figured we’d start with the Max Ice, since it was technically beer, not malt liquor. Turns out that was a good decision. The only thing that made this beer taste good was the OE was drank afterwards.

During all of my bitching about having to drink this garbage, Pat says “I picked what I thought was the best two 40s the liqour store had. I’m not an expert on this.” To me, I heard “I’m not and expertologist.” Well, hilarity ensued for the next hour or so while we thought we just made up a word…turns out a quick Google search reveals there really are Expertologists…of which Pat and I are now honorary ‘ologists.

Albino Rhino Lager

Alcohol Content:  5%
Sequence:  Second
Finished:  Yes
Vessel:  Draught

The second of the Albino Rhino line (the only two available at that location) I tried.  This is the light one (in colour) that I thought the Pale Ale was.

By this time, we got our food. Me, a great big bacon cheese burger (delicious) Pat, their chicken curry, and Sean, fish and MASHED POTATOES????? That kid is strange.

The first sippy sip of the Lager was good. It has a sort of honey smell and tastes of citrus something. I couldn’t figure out what is tasted like, but something on the list already. By the time I got around to the 5th or 6th visit to the glass….the taste started to change. At that point, all I could smell was curry, so it was throwing my taste buds off. Thanks Pat.
It was a great beer and I’ll drink it again and again…if I ever get back to Earl’s.

Now that they have to change the name though…. I wonder what they are doing with their 2lbs glasses?
