Country of Origin: Turkey
Alcohol Content: 5%
Sequence: Umm… Third (after 6 glasses of wine)
Finished: Yes
Vessel: Can

Turkish beer… who knew? When my wife showed me she got this, we were having fun with the name. “Hey, can I have that F’n beer”… little things amuse me.

So I cracked it open after a long night of food and drink with friends and the smell just didn’t do it for me. But I bravely took a swig (because I can’t waste beer). Surprise! It was actually pretty good. Kind of creamy, kind of malty, but light. It took me a while to drink it, only because we were talking a lot, so the last few sips were warm… don’t do that.

My mother-in-law wanted to try it too, and she liked it too, which was surprising since she drinks nothing but wine. Good to know I have another person to drink fun beer with.

Country of Origin: Canada
Alcohol Content: 5%
Sequence: First
Finished: Yes
Vessel: Bottle

I had this once before at a restaurant when they didn’t have any Smash Bomb left. I’ll tell you, it tasted much better on tap than it did out of the bottle. It was definitely full of hops, even the smell of it tickled your nose in a not so nice way.

Despite the extreme hop flavour, it was good. It’s not a drink all day kind of beer but I have no problem drinking it again.

Birra Moretti

Country of Origin: Italy
Alcohol Content: 4.6%
Sequence: First
Finished: Yes
Vessel: Draught

I went out for lunch with the boss today and, as is customary, you wait for them to order drinks first… to see if you’re allowed to drink beer. I was allowed to drink. Good for all of us.

Along with my P•Za•Pie, I had a Moretti; a nice, Italian beer. I say nice because it was one of the nicest beers I’ve had in quite some time. It was beery smelling and had a light, malty taste. The boss sucked his back in, I think, 4 gulps, but I took my time.

It’s available at the Beer Store but it’s $14 for 6… so I’ll just stick to drinking it whilst eating the most delicious pizza around (yes, go there, it’s great).

Somersby Apple Cider

Country of Origin: Denmark
Alcohol Content: 4.5%
Sequence: First
Finished: Barely
Vessel: Glass by way of can… with LOTS of ice

Again, technically not a beer but made by a beer company (Carlsberg), so… close enough.

After my last meeting with a cider, I was very wary about trying another one. But when a friend came over and had some in hand, I couldn’t really say no, right? Besides, he said that it was better than the Keith’s stuff (not hard to do!).

His secret was to load a glass with ice and let it get really cold first. Although it was a little more tolerable, it still tasted like ass with a hint of apple. I can’t do it anymore, no more ciders for me. WAY too sweet. You get gut rot before you’re even done drinking it.

Farvel Somersby, farvel!
